A longtime jeweler customer in Texas sent us an incredibly rare and large stone this week, and we thought we would share it.
If you are looking for something unusual and truly amazing, look no further than an Asscher cut
stone. From its inception, this cut’s clean lines and elegant geometry have made it a favorite among
those who appreciate vintage items.

Invented by the Asscher family over a century ago, this cut is not often found at all, and when we do get
one, the stone is usually 2 or 3 carats or smaller. But to find a 10.5 carat stone of such color and clarity was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own something rare.
The cut is a remarkable blend of historical craftsmanship, amazing cutting, and geometric design that has a decidedly contemporary appeal. Its step-cut facets, squarish shape, open culet, and distinctive “X” shape faceting make it unique.
The Skill And Impact Of The Asscher Cut
It is often said that people stare inside the stone and are mesmerized by it. The step faceting creates a captivating “X” shape that can be seen when looking directly down into the diamond. This “X” pattern is formed by the intersection of the step-cut facets and adds a visual layer of mirrored eye appeal to the diamond. The symmetrical arrangement of the facets enhances the diamond’s ability to capture and reflect light, resulting in a mesmerizing play of light and shadow that almost tricks the eye.
Retail value, depending on jeweler markup and stature, would be $400,000 to $600,000. So-called “wholesale” would be around $325,000, according to online resources. We were able to buy it for liquidation value for under $175,000. It is available for purchase in our store, by appointment only, for
$250,000. It is I color (white) and VS1 clarity.
This dazzler is a must see! Newsprint does not do it justice!
