Hess Fine Art and Old Northeast Jewelers would be nothing without my wife and partner, Katrina Hess. This year, she celebrates an incredible milestone — her 40th year in the business, a journey that began
as an Independent AGS Jeweler in Lake Jackson, Texas. From there, she began taking GIA courses and rose to prominence, eventually founding one of Houston’s most respected appraisal firms, which remains in operation today. Katrina holds nine certifications from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA),
founded the Tampa Bay GIA Alumni Association, and even taught a five-year course with me on fine and decorative arts at St. Petersburg College. Widely regarded as a “go-to” arbiter among jewelers across the country, her extensive knowledge and passion for science set her apart in the industry.
At Hess Fine Art, we like to say my touch has four hands—two of them belonging to Katrina. She’s not just my right hand; she’s my partner, the steady backbone, and the irreplaceable force that keeps everything running smoothly in our auction business, wholesale business, fine art business and our retail stores. As a licensed auctioneer, she runs our international auction house as well. Katrina often says her role is about “mitigating the chaos,” and her unyielding commitment to our team, customers, and her love of learning is evident in everything she does. Her sharp eye for detail, thirst for knowledge, and unparalleled drive bring structure and support to every project, ensuring that our clients are always well cared for.
Katrina is the glue that binds Hess Fine Art and Old Northeast Jewelers, and much more than just the power behind the throne. She actually leads the charge, helping us thrive as a gallery, auction house and jewelry retailer, serving not just Tampa Bay but tens of thousands of customers across the U.S. Her worth” is incalculable, not just to our businesses but in her work with Rotary Club, her volunteer work reading to kids in the St. Pete school system, and her mutual love with me of welcoming more than a dozen exchange students over the years to our home.
