We were recently consigned for auction an incredible bit of history with terrific provenance.
A jeweler from Ohio bought from the family of Colonel Edward Allen Noyes, a famous WWI veteran/doctor/medic and distinguished 1916 graduate of military medical school. His military and medical records have been heavily documented and well published.
He rose from a major to a colonel in the U.S. medical Corps by an act of Congress in 1948. Not only is there the family provenance, but his name is inside the ring and his initials are on the cartouche of this incredibly heavy and colorful 14K gold box hunter pocket watch.
Typically, a pocket watch of this size, condition, and color would only bring $2,500, and WWI military rings like this bring less than $1,000; but because of their impeccable provenance, we will have an auction estimate of $5,000-$6,000 – and hope to secure much more.
