Today’s column will highlight one of our trusted longtime employees, an accomplished Graduate Gemologist – Darren Delgado – who is delighted that we are opening a new store in his original Tampa neighborhood. He grew up just a stone’s throw away from our new store on Swann Avenue. He went to grade school there and has deep Tampa roots. His father worked on the corner of Swann and Howard for over 25 years.
Darren played baseball on the empty lots in the tiny little Hyde Park baseball field next to the Winn-Dixie. Darren’s grandmother, who just turned 101, was born and bred in Ybor, and worked in the cigar factory rolling cigars in the 1940s. Darren grew up in a house in Parkland Estates and rode his bike past the future home of our new store every day. When we announced that we were moving to Hyde Park Village, he got emotional – because he felt like he was coming home. We will continue to have the same brands, excellent service and incredible array of jewelry and watches in this store, just like we did in the International Plaza store.
Katrina and I invite you to stop by to see our new store and say hello to Mr. Delgado and the store manager, Amy Martin (and Kenzie, too).
